donations/ reuse center
The Reuse Center

  • The Reuse Center is open part of the year, Saturdays, 8:00-4:00, May through September or October, hinging on weather and availability of volunteer staff.

  • Most items there are available for donation.  (Some items do have a price tag which is calculated at one-fourth its value.)  All money made at the Reuse Center then goes to the Fall Mountain Food Shelf.

  • There are things they do not take: ceramics, electronics, mattresses, car seats, cribs, and large outdoor furniture.

  • Things may not be dropped off there unless staff is there and approves.

Ecosmith Recyclers’ bin for donations takes (in tied off plastic bag):
  • Clothes
  • Shoes
  • Blankets
  • Sheets
  • Towels
  • Stuffed animals

Fall Mountain Food Shelf’s inside bin takes non-perishable donations.

Books & newer magazines (for donation & swaps)
  • Inside the Recycling Center
    • No limit on how many can be dropped off
    • No limit on how many can be taken
  • At the Reuse Center (when open)
    • When open, there is a three-book limit on what can be taken.
    • Check with staff on what can be donated.
Trash
Trash can be brought in two ways:

In a Walpole bag
It can be tossed without cost into the trash compactor. (Walpole bags -- 10 bags for $20 -- are available at the following stores: Aubuchon Hardware, Drewsville General Store, Fall Mountain Building Supply, 5 Star Beverage, Jake’s Market, Jiffy Mart, LaValley Building Supply, Discount Food Warehouse, Shaw’s, and the Walpole Village Store.)

In a non-Walpole bag
It goes to the weigh-and-pay section, where the fee is $0.30/lb.

Hazardous waste
The Recycling Center does not take hazardous waste (such as asbestos or anything marked flammable, poisonous, toxic, combustible, corrosive, caustic, reactive, irritant, oxidizer, or hazardous).

  • The Keene Recycling Center takes most of these.  Their website describes what they do and don’t take and gives their yearly summer-fall schedule. (If amounts exceed free limits, payment is by check only.) (Phone: 352-5739.)
  • There are things Keene Recycling won’t take that either local police departments or fire departments will.
    • Consult local police (445-2058) for disposal of ammunition, gun powder, or medication.  (Twice a year -- spring and fall -- the Walpole Police Department coordinates with the Recycling Center for public medication disposal at the Center.)
    • Consult local fire department (756-3621) for disposal of fireworks.
Volunteering
We’re part of the community and want the community to be part of us.  To volunteer, contact Recycling Center Manager Benjamin Hoy for information.  (Phone: (603)445-5197 or email at transfer@myfairpoint.net.)
